Ring of Honor Wrestling: A Re-introduction to Professional Wrestling

I have been a wrestling fan for more than half my life. It all started with an episode of WCW Monday Nitro in June of 1999 (although I don't like to admit that) when I was nine years old, and it is a love that has stayed with me all the way to the age of 21. However; I, like other wrestling and ex-wrestling fans out there, was incredibly entertained by the things that came across my television set as a young boy ten years ago, but in my 20's, am looking for something else. The childish humor and incoherent story lines of today's mainstream wrestling companies (or "entertainment" companies in WWE's case) is not holding the attention of us 20 something aged fans.

Sure, with the rise of C.M Punk on WWE TV lately we've been getting a much more intelligent and provocative product, but it's really only for fleeting minutes at a time. It is also, as most great things in "the E" tend to do over time, beginning to fade out.

What we need is a new product to sink our teeth into. A product that is marketed toward our demographic, and now we have it.

Ring of Honor wrestling goes on the Sinclair Broadcasting Network beginning Saturday Night, September 24th at 9:00pm (check your local listings for exact station availability). Now, I will admit, I have just discovered the awesomeness of ROH in the past 6 months, but I will tell you, if you haven't seen the ROH product before, it is ABSOLUTELY worth checking out.

Ring of Honor is about pure, no-limits, athletic competition. Their performers are called "wrestlers" not "superstars" and are valued and respected for their ability to portray pro wrestling as the amazing art form it can be. It's not about crazy story lines where women are disrespected and nobody can keep things straight, it's not about childish humor, it's about one goal: delivering the best professional wrestling possible on each and every show.

Now, this is not to say there are no characters in ROH. In a lot of ways ROH wrestlers play to the audience even more than wrestlers in WWE and TNA. It's just that, character development is secondary to in-ring action. And it's not all new faces either! Well known names in the wrestling industry such as: Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, Homicide, Christopher Daniels, Rhino, Steve Corino, Jay Lethal, and more now call ROH home!

Please visit rohwrestling.com for more information. There you can view the details for their debut on Sinclair Broadcasting September 24th, as well as information on their next Internet Pay-Per-View on September 17th, headlined by what promises to be an amazing "ladder War."

In the meantime, I have included a link below where you can view the highlights of ROH Final Battle 2010 (their biggest show of the year) which includes parts of my personal favorite ROH match of all time between El Generico and Kevin Steen. I also have links to other ROH videos in the video bar to the left of this post. This should definitely get you excited about Ring of Honor!
